The Stratford Park Lido scheme was announced in Baths and Baths Engineering, December 1935.

The parabolic diving board is a listed structure – see link to Historic England below.

The pool was heated when it first opened but the boiler was removed and melted down for the war effort and it was not replaced.

In July 2024, the council announced that they intend to spend £2.7m on refurbishment of the leisure centre site with repairs to the pool tank and the pre-WWII plant.

Baths and Bath Engineering, February 1938

STROUD URBAN DISTRICT COUNCIL.
SUPERINTENDENT OF OPEN AIR SWIMMING POOL.
The Council invite applications from persons not exceeding 40 years of age for the appointment of Superintendent to control the Open Air Swimming Pool. Preference will be given to candidates having experience in the management of municipal baths establishments.

The Salary will be £208 per annum, increasing by annual increments of £13 to a maximum of £260, subject to deductions under the provisions of the Local Government and other Officers’ Superannuation Act, 1922, and the successful candidate will be required to pass a medical examination.

Applications in the candidates’ own handwriting endorsed “Baths Superintendent” must be delivered to the undersigned not later than Saturday, 26th Februnry, 1938. Testimonials will only be required from candidates included in the short list.

Canvassing either directly or indirectly, will be a disqualification.
