Letters to the editor, Baths and Bath Engineering October 1934
Sir, You are already aware that our order has been placed for a further series of 12 full page insertions in your publication. The results obtained from inquiries elicited by your journal were very gratifying, and have greatly assisted us in popularising the Zotofoam baths, of which there are now over 700 installed.
As you know, our efforts have been directed to formulating a campaign for the relief of rheumatism and its allied complaints amongst working people-municipalities being the most sa,tisfactory medium.
Bath superintendents and medical officers of health are taking increasing interest in Zotofoam, as instanced yesterday, when at Wimbledon Corporation Baths there was a very interesting gathering of doctors invited by the chairman of the Baths Committee Coun. A. A. Drake and the M.O.H. to a Zotofoam demonstration, and to-day the establishment was crowded with the general public who witnessed demonstrations.
Throughout the country the baths are popular, and in many cases appointments have to be booked four to five days ahead. In many cases where Zotofoam baths have been installed recently there have been urgent requests for further equipments.
In conclusion, we wish your journal every success. If everyone finds it as valuable an advertising medium as we have done then success is certainly assured.
For and on behalf of Soapless Foam, Ltd.,

Zotofoam Baths RECORD RECENT PROGRESS
Reference was made in our last issue to the exhibit which Soapless Foam Ltd. had at the Ideal Home Exhibition. The object of the display was not so much to sell equipments as to popularise foam baths by making them familiar to the public. Considerable success to this end was achieved as up to about ten days before the publication of this issue over seven thousand enquiries had been received for information as to the nearest place where foam baths could be obtained.

The display was part of Soapless Foam Ltd.’s national advertising campaign and another adjunct to it was an attractive brochure which produced another five thousand like enquiries. A register was kept on the stand containing information as to the facilities available at all municipal establishments, such as location, times of opening, prices etc., and we understand that this was made much use of, so much so, that it was not possible to keep a record of the number of enquirers. It is apparent, therefore, that the public is definitely interested in foam baths.
Over one hundred and thirty municipalities have now installed Zotofoam equipments and repeat orders are being received continuously.
A further part of the co -operative advertising campaign is the issue to baths authorities of a poster. This poster is printed in nine colours and is most striking; our reproduction in black and white does not do it credit. The cost of production in double crown size is 1s. 6d. each and in 60 in. by 40 in. 3s 6d each but they are sold to bath authorities at half price, that is 9d and 1s 9d each respectively. A still further advertising aid is an informative and well-illustrated leaflet on foam bath treatment printed in two colours. The charge for these is £1 per thousand. Space is available on two pages for overprinting local matter. A small charge is made for the overprinting.

The offer that was made in these pages about a year ago to co-operate with bath authorities in local press advertising still stands. Soapless Foam Ltd. will bear fifty per cent of the cost of any such scheme and the company will prepare copy and lay-outs. A number of municipalities have participated in this scheme and record increased attendances.
We are glad to notice that soapless foam treatments have now been taken up by the big stores. This should be of great advantage to municipal establishments. The offer is made on condition that the charge for treatment in stores shall not be less than 5s. per bath and in addition that a fully qualified nurse and masseur must be in attendance. Such restrictions do not apply to municipal baths which should benefit from the interest caused.
Amongst recent installations of soapless foam baths are those by the municipalities of Hove, Douglas I.O.M., and Batley.
