This pool first appears on ordnance survey maps around 1914, before the main park was established. By 1955 it was referred to as the “Old Swimming Pool” on maps.
The original pool was built some time after the park was first established in 1907 but the site ended up a dumping ground by 1921, possibly due to the effects of the war.
Post WWI, the park was developed again with a stone pavillion and extensive landscaping. Part of the scheme was to upgrade the old pool, increasing its size but again to no avail as the site was bombed during WWII and the work was never completed. The pool was allowed to return to nature and was finally infilled . It was still showing on ordnance survey until 1970.
