This pool of unfiltered sea water was filled every two weeks at high tide.
In 1963 the pool was closed at the end of the season for major refurbishment costing £60,000. The revamped main pool had the diving boards removed, but a new diving pool was constructed. Changing rooms were concrete and still outdoors, along with the tuck shop. This pool was finally demolished around 1983 at the end of the season.
One remarkable feature was the circular diving pool that can be seen being constructed in one of the images below. This had three fixed diving boards. It can be clearly seen on the c1967 map of the site below that also shows a smaller main pool.
Not to be confused with the outdoor pool at Dovercourt Bay Holiday Camp half a mile to the east.
