Preliminary work begun on October 7th 1935 in connection with the construction of the new swimming pool at Lammerlaws, for the burgh council. William Taylor and Son, Ltd., engineers, Glasgow, were the contractors for the scheme.

At the height of its popularity, gala evenings were held, usually during July and August. These featured bathing beauty competitions, diving exhibitions and competitions, races, water polo and pillow fights. Floodlights around the pool allowed midnight bathing sessions. A cafeteria on the top deck served light refreshments. Installation of a heating system for the water failed to halt declining attendances.

In 1979 locals fought to save the pool from closure. The council had received an estimate for repairs to the tune of £25,000 due to structural problems. Despite letters of protest, a petition and protest demonstrations, a reprieve was not given and the pool closed before the start of that summers season.
