The open-air swimming baths in Pontnewydd were opened in 1915 by Abersychan Urban District Council. Situated on a small parcel of land opposite Mill Road (which today features a children’s playground), the baths were entered by means of a footbridge fronted by a brick archway emblazoned “1915: AUDC Swimming Baths”. The arch remains standing today and is all that remains of the baths themselves. Extant until the 1980s, the baths were subsequently filled in.
