The Trinkie is a natural sea-water pool in Wick, Scotland, with a history dating back over a century. It began as a suggestion for a public saltwater pool in 1896, but wasn’t realized until later, with a formal proposal appearing in 1900 suggesting the Lorne Quarry site. The pool, meaning “trench” in Scots, was formed from a quarry. The first advert for the Trinkie Swimming Club was in 1931, with 40 members signing up.
The Trinkie Heritage Preservation Group has been actively involved in raising funds and working to preserve the pool, particularly after it was damaged in a storm. Facebook
