The pool dates from 1923 and was demolished circa 1987. The only evidence remaining is the aerator which is in poor shape. Unusually it is not enclosed as is the one at Southwark Park.

A visit to the site of the long-gone Peckham Rye Bathing Pool on Sunday 4th February.

There is a curved bank around two sides and this appears to have been there when the pool was open. You can see behind the aerator the path that rises up. There are a couple of mounds of earth on the site. I wonder why they were not just flattened out? Strange. The fence looks old enough to be pool-era. The gate leads out to the west side of the triangle of land at the top of Peckham Rye Park but the entrance to the pool building was further down as you can see from the OS map.

The aerator is marked on the OS map as “Fn” and aerators are often referred to as fountains. Just south of the site is a 30’s style single storey building described as a “ruin” although this building remains and has recently been used as a childrens nursery.
