Albert Avenue Pool aka Newington Baths aka West Hull Baths

Originally known as the Newington Baths, this outdoor pool was built on the site of the old Newington Water Company works. Slipper baths were also on the site and a covered bath was built in 1933. During its early days there were numerous compenation claims to the council from the residents of houses in Albert Avenue complaining of dampness caused by the baths.

In 1925 slipper baths were built adjacent to the outdoor pool that are now the headquarters of the Kingston Kayak Club.

Information suggests the pool was opened in 1958 and this may be when it changed its name to West Hull Baths but no firm information is to be found.

Historic aerial images (2003) show an adjacent paddling pool but going back further this appears to have been part of the original pool and then sectioned off.

It continued as a public swimming bath until the eighties when it was closed but then used by a private kayak club.

A refurbishment plan was announced for the whole site to be comprehensively overhauled with the pool being brought up to current competition standards and with accessible entrance to the water. The two indoor pools also received a facelift. The pool is still used by kayak and water polo clubs.
