Hathersage pool was the first of two pools gifted to the people of Sheffield and surrounding village by George Lawrence, the second being Longley Park, the subject of our post of 9th September.
Both pools were of similar design but Hathersage benefitted from a bandstand with decorated cast iron scrolls of birds and fruit.
Water heating plant was installed for the 1937 season. The pool was originally tiled but has now been rendered.
The pool has benefitted from improvements and refurbishments over the years, some funded by a local lottery and by local authority subidies. The good management has kept this pool in good order and open ever since 1937 with no need of being rescued.
